Ingredients 6 cups torn salad greens * 1 1/2 cups desired salad ingredients ** Salad dressing Salad garnish
Method In a large bowl combine your choice of torn salad greens and combination of 2 or more desired salad ingredients. Cover and chill till serving time. Toss salad lightly with desired salad dressing. Arrange a salad garnish on the top of the salad. Serve immediately. Make 6 side-dish servings
* Salads green suggestions:Choose 2 or more of the following: iceberg lettuce, romaine, curly endive, leaf lettuce, spinach, Bibb lettuce, Boston lettuce, escarole, watercress, Chinese cabbage, Swiss chard, mustard greens, beet tops, kale leaves, dandelion greens, or fennel.
** Salad ingredients suggestionsChoose 2 or more from the following categories: Fresh vegetables:Tomato wedges, sliced cucumber, sliced fresh mushrooms, chopped or sliced celery, sliced radishes, shredded carrot, sliced cauliflower floweret, onion rings, green pepper strips or rings, sliced zucchini, halved cherry tomatoes, chopped red cabbage, bean sprouts, or sliced water chestnuts. Cooked vegetables:Chopped broccoli, brussels sprouts, peas, beans (garbanzo, cut green, lima, pinto, kidney), or artichoke hearts. Salad highlighters: sliced avocado, sliced pitted ripe or pimiento-stuffed olives, anchovy fillets, coarsely chopped or sliced hard-cooked egg, snipped chives, sliced green onion, alfalfa sprouts, cubed tofu, or raisins. Cheese: Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Swiss, Muenster, colby, American, brick, or Gruyere cheese cut into julienne strips or cubese, or crumbed feta or blue cheese.
*** Salad garnishes:Top the salad with 1 of the following: crouton, toasted pumpkin seeds, peanuts, broken pecans or walnuts, crumbled crisp-cooked bacon, parsley sprigs, sieved hard-cooked egg yolk, or carrot curls.
