Apple Crumb Pie Recipe

Here's a delicious, lowfat, low-saturated fat version of a classic. It's lower in calories than most versions as well, although it's not a low-calorie dessert. So, save it for a once-a-week occasion, not every night.

Ingredients:

8 large crisp, cooking applies, peeled, cored and thinly sliced

1.4 cup nonfat buttermilk

2/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon apple pie spice

1 Easy Flaky Pastry baked for only 8 minutes at 425o.

Streusel Crumbs (recipe follows)

Method:

Place apples in a large mixing bowl. In a small saucepan, combine buttermilk, brown sugar; and flour; mix until smooth. Cook over over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar melts and mixture thickens. Pour over apples in bowl; gently toss.

Arrange apples snugly in pastry shell, mounding into a firm shape. Cover pie plate with aluminium foil, and bake at 425o for 15 minutes. Uncover pie, and sprinkle with Streusel Crumbs. Reduce oven temperature to 350o, and continue baking 30 minutes or until fruit is tender. Let cool serve warm or at room temperature.
