Creamy White Frosting Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup shortening

1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 teaspoon lemon extract

2 1/2 to 4 3/4 cups sifted powdered sugar

3 to 4 tablespoons milk

 

Method:

Beat shortening, vanilla, and lemon extract on medium speed of electric mixer for 30 seconds. Gradually add about half of the powdered sugar, beating well. Add 2 tablespoons of the milk. Gradually beat in remaining powdered sugar and enough milk. Gradually beat in remaining powdered sugar and enough milk to make of spreading consistency (1 to 2 tablespoons). Frost tops and sides of two 8- or 9-inch layers.

 

Note: Add additional powdered sugar to make of stiffer consistency for decorative flowers or borders.

 

Peppermint Frosting:

Prepare Creamy White Frosting as above, except 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract instead of the 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract.
