Apple Fritter Rings Recipe

Ingredients:

4 large tart cooking apples

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

Dash salt

1 beaten egg

2/3 cup milk

1 teaspoon cooking oil

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

 

 

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 slightly beaten eggs

1/2 cup sugar

2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

1 cup buttermilk or sour milk

Shortening or cooking oil for deep-fat frying

 

Method

Core and peel cooking apples; cut into 1/2-inch-thick rings and set aside. In a mixing bowl thoroughly stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Combine egg, milk and cooking  oil; add all at once to flour mixture, stirring just till combined.

 

In a skillet that is at least 2 inches deep, heat 1 inch shortening or cooking oil to 375o. Dip apple slices in batter one at a time. Fry fritters in hot fat about 1 1.2 minutes per side or till golden brown, turning once. Drain on paper toweling. Sprinkle hot fritters with a mixture of 1/4 cup sugar and ground cinnamon. Serve hot. Makes 16 fritters.
