General tips
- For a quick garnish or for use in recipes, toast chopped nuts or coconut in a shallow baking pan in a 350 degree oven for 5 to 10 minutes or till browned, stirring once or twice. Cool the nuts or coconut; seal in plastic bags or freezer containers; label and freeze.
- Shred American, cheddar, Swiss or mozzarella cheese in batches to save time and effort. Plan you menus ahead and shred the amount of cheese you’ll need all at once. Seal it in plastics bags, then label and chill.
- Chill foods quickly by placing the, in your freezer for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Keep a supply of hard-cooked eggs in your refrigerator to use in recipes. Hard-cooked eggs will remain fresh for up to 1 week in your refrigerator.
- When you need a sauce on the spur of the moment, heat a can of undiluted condensed cream of mushroom, cream of celery, cream of chicken, cream of shrimp, cream of onion, cheddar cheese, or tomato soup.
